Keys are matched by physical position (event.code), so layout language doesn't matter. Some keys reserved by your OS or browser (screenshot, media, Fn combos, Ctrl+W) may never reach the page and can't be tested here.
This free online keyboard tester lets you test every key on your keyboard directly in the browser — no download, no signup. Press a key and the matching cap on the on-screen layout flashes with the accent colour, then stays lightly shaded so you can see at a glance which keys you've already checked. How to use the keyboard tester
1. Pick your layout
Choose Full, TKL, 75%, 65% or 60% so the on-screen keyboard and the tested count match your board.
2. Click to start
Click the keyboard area to focus it. The overlay disappears and key presses now register.
3. Press every key
Work row by row. Each key lights up on press and stays shaded as tested. Hold several at once to test rollover.
4. Read the results
Watch the key / code / keyCode readout and the stuck-key hint. Hit Reset to clear and test again.

Frequently asked questions
Click the on-screen keyboard to start the tester, then press every key one at a time. Each key you press lights up and stays shaded as tested, and the counter shows how many of the layout's keys you have covered so far. Work across the rows systematically — letters, numbers, modifiers, function row, arrows and numpad — until the count reaches 100 percent. The live readout also shows the event.key, event.code and keyCode for the last key pressed, which is handy for debugging remaps.
Press and release each key normally and watch the readout. A healthy key registers one keydown and one keyup; a stuck or chattering key either stays highlighted after you let go, repeats rapidly on its own, or fires several times from a single press. This tester flags a key held for more than about ten seconds as a possible stuck key, but that is only a software heuristic — a truly stuck switch or a debounce fault usually needs contact cleaner or a switch swap to fix.
Ghosting is when pressing several keys at once makes a key you did not press register, or drops a key you did press, because the keyboard matrix cannot tell that combination apart. N-key rollover (NKRO) means every key is scanned independently so any number can be pressed together. To test it, hold several keys down at once on the on-screen layout — this tester keeps every pressed key active instead of clearing the previous one, so you can see which combinations your keyboard reports correctly.
The browser never sees some keystrokes. Keys reserved by your operating system or browser — screenshot keys, media keys, Fn combinations handled in hardware, or shortcuts like Ctrl+W — are intercepted before the page receives them. The tester also has to be focused, so click the keyboard first. If a normal alphanumeric key still does nothing after that, it is a genuine sign of a hardware fault with that switch or the keyboard's controller.

The on-screen layout and the keys tested total update to match, so a 60% board is complete at 61 keys while a full-size board needs all 104 including the numpad.
